These days more and people choose cremation as a way of dealing with remains. One thing that has enabled is families to be able schedule a memorial a month or 2 later when folks can plan to get there. We did that after my Mom died and chose her birthday as a time immediate family could gather to scatter her ashes at her favorite beach. The memorial service was the next day. We liked how it wasn’t rushed.

Last year I left Iowa went through Minnesota into North Dakota. The reason for that route was that my Uncle was 94 and I wasn't sure how many more times I would get a chance to see him again. So I stopped in and visited him. He was in good shape at that point. Having left there I went through the Black Hills, western Nebraska and onto Colorado Springs. Before I got to Colorado Springs I found out my uncle was in the hospital. So I just cut my trip short and came home about two weeks early. Three weeks approximately I was driving back to North Dakota to go to his funeral. Hope I don't have to figure this out this summer when I am gone for 2 months. But I will be about 1500 miles from home at the farthest and get between 25 – 30 miles per gallon, so driving is probably the way I would go this time.

    Something to think about….
I just don't know in my case, cause money keeps me on budget…..
    But a kid, a sibling or a parent I'd make a way……other than that,
    I'd send loving regards….

I travel for work and my aunt's, uncle, and cousins have past away while I was a day or so drive away. I'm not close to any of them but one. I made it to the funeral of that cousin (3 days after she past but I was back by that time). I didn't change any thing for the others because we were not close (only seeing once or twice a year). When my dad was really suck and when he pasted away I worked closer to home so I could see him at the hospital ever night and stayed there with him most of the time. I don't like to go to funerals so it would have to a handful of people I would come back for.

My youngest daughter said she figured they would just find me dead in the woods some where. As for funerals unless its one of my children or siblings i would go but otherwise no i would not
