Hiking the Zion Narrows is a bucket list experience to be sure. It’s considered one of the absolute best trails in the world and it’s a hike nearly anyone can enjoy.

Hike the full 16 miles or just a few. Whatever you’re up to. Here’s what you’ll need to know before heading out:

Plan on getting wet. The vast majority of the hike will be in the river. Wear closed toed shoes. Make sure to check the flow rate of the Virgin River before beginning your hike (info available at Zion National Park visitor center). Even on hot days, the narrows can be quite cold. Be prepared. Check air and water temperatures before heading out.

Start at the Temple of Sinawava (southern end) or Chamberlain’s Ranch (northern end – PERMIT REQUIRED). If you begin at the southern end you can hike 5 miles to Big Spring but you will require a permit to venture further. 10 miles out and back total.

No toilets or trash receptacles anywhere along the trail. Pack out ALL of your waste. Please leave absolutely no trace.

Went here 2 years ago with my brother and my dad. We did a roadtrip across western America. THIS is the highlight of our trip. I reccomend EVERYBODY to go here before you leave this world. The video dosent do justice to the incredible adventure it truly was.

Here is a suggestion to anyone contemplating this hike, from someone who has done it twice: Take ONE trekking pole, NOT TWO. Having one pole helps you to stay on your feet on the hike, but if you DO slip (and you will from time to time), you want to have a free hand to put on a rock or even down into the river to brace yourself.

Ppl need to understand the dangers! Zion locations with most deaths as of 2014; Angels Landing: 12 The Narrows: 9 The Tunnel: 8.
These tragic and sometimes horrific events have been published in a book titled “Deaths and Rescues in Zion.” Educate yourself before you go, be prepared and don't die or get hurt there.

That's what scares me: Flashflood potential…! But The Narrows looks beautiful and I would love to come back to zion and do that trail. I did 4 other ones and those were beautiful too.
