Zion National Park Accommodations, Hotels, Vacation Rentals & Lodging

Road tripped to these incredible spots in one weekend! They are all amazing, but I cannot wait to get back to Zion National Park. This is easy to do in three days, but more time would allow more time at Zion and to see Bryce Canyon. Map of our route: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TWBAeXZXK7ACu0N7VV5UM2_CIqU&usp=sharing

TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*For the drive, we stayed one night at the North Rim West Cabins, then one night in Kanab, which has several hotel options.

GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM:
*Stay in the Western Cabins, they are worth it and are close to the Bright Angel Trail.
*There are far fewer view points to drive to on the North Rim than the South Rim, but give yourself time because they are very spread out.

HORSESHOE BEND:
*It was almost too hot here, and there is over 1 mile hiking.
*There’s not too much to do here other than pictures.

ANTELOPE CANYON:
Go To: Navajonationparks.org to see every Antelope Canyon Tour
*There are several options for Antelope Canyon, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Antelope Canyon X Taadidiin Tours (Hiking Tour). It is the cheapest ($38) and they do not rush you. The experience was amazing! For online reservations (were not needed for us): https://www.antelopecanyon-x.com/

ZION NATIONAL PARK:
*Stay at the lodge- it makes it so you don’t have to wait in the long bus line in the morning.
*I would stay for at least 3 nights. You wont want to leave.
*Angel’s Landing is not that strenuous or difficult, or even extreme, or scary. It’s all pretty over hyped, but the view from the top is incredible.

What we did:
GRAND CANYON
(0:00) Intro: Grand Canyon Timelapse, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell (only shot we got… it was too hot to film), drone footage just outside Zion National Park, Hiking Angel’s Landing.
(0:20) Grand Canyon North Rim- Exploring and being goofy on the Bright Angel Trail.
(1:00) Timelapse of the sunset from Bright Angel Trail
(1:08) Bright Angel Trail the following morning for the sunrise
(1:33) Stopped at Point Imperial view point on our way out

HORSESHOE BEND
(1:41) Arriving and checking out Horseshoe bend

ANTELOPE CANYON:
(2:15) We did our tour of the Southern Upper Antelope Canyon with Antelope Canyon X Taadidiin Tours

ZION NATIONAL PARK:
(3:05) Flying the DJI Mavic just outside the park entrance
(3:19) Hiking Angel’s Landing

I did a ‘Bottoms Up’ hike to ‘The Subway’ in Zion National Park on March 24, 2019. I started my hike around 7.15 AM and arrived at ‘The Subway’ around 10.00 AM. There was no snow or ice along the route and the water levels were high. It was nice to see Archangel Falls so full. Anyone planning to go on this hike should definitely carry plenty of water and adequate food. The hike is strenuous, but the destination made it all worthwhile I should note that the first 3 miles involve crossing the creek multiple times and negotiating boulders – the scenery is average. The last 1 mile is just spectacular. I highly recommend going in the spring, as the waterfalls are running full.

Here are some vignettes from my hike to ‘The Subway. I shot this footage with a GoPro Hero 7 Black. Photos displayed at the end of the video were shot with the Nikon D850 and the Nikon 24-70 G lens.

South Campground near the main visitor center in Zion National Park (Springdale Utah). Offers primitive tent and RV camping in a shaded setting on a first come and first served basis. Not as nice as the Watchman Campground this campground has sites situated on concentric loops with one side bounded by the highway and the other bounded by the Virgin River. A few lucky tent campers can setup overlooking the river adjacent to the paved multi-use Parus Trail. A short walk to Visitor Center and free shuttle to see the main canyon during peak season.

Sites are a mix of small tent sites and very large pull thru style RV sites. For large RVs the limiting factor will be the narrow roads. Open seasonally. there is a dump station and restrooms. Water spigots are located throughout the campground.

A hike on the Canyon Overlook trail at Zion National Park in early June 2018. I did my best to include the entire trail (minus the initial stairs leading to the trailhead). The trail was relatively busy, resulting in waiting for other hikers to pass through the more narrow sections of the trail, as well as a few edits being made to the video.

There are a few sections of the trail with some moderate exposure as seen in the video, but honestly for those afraid of heights those sections look a lot scarier in the video than in real life and I never felt in any danger on the trail. All in all Canyon Overlook is a gorgeous trail that I would rate as easy-to-moderate in difficulty. (Unfortunately, the sun was NOT my best friend for recording that time of day)

Watchman Campground is located adjacent to the main visitor center in Zion National Park (Springdale Utah). Offering tent and RV camping in 5 different loops and 1 group area. Recently renovated this modern campground is nicely appointed with excellent facilities for tent and RVs. Loops A&B are geared towards larger RVs with partial hookups (water and electric) available; these loops also have sites that border the Virgin River with some affording scenic views of the water. The remaining loops are targeted towards tent campers (although van/ truck campers could use the sites). In addition there are a number of hike in tent campsites situated at the base of a small hill; with natural vegetation and good separation these are the premier tent camping spots in this campground. Finally the group camping area offers large groups a very nice camping area with dedicated bathrooms and water fill. Paved roads. A dump station is available

There are no shower facilities inside the park. Water spigots are located throughout along with modern bathhouses and outdoor washing sinks.

Sites can be reserved in advance for Watchman Campground and go quickly in peak season. Multiple trails depart from this location plus you are in short walking distance to the visitor center where you can ride the free shuttle to experience the main canyon during peak season.

This is part 1 of 2 of our hike up Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National park. We took off in the dark and make it to the lookout once it is very light. The wind was very strong at the point and very cold too. There is LOTS to see here so I hope you enjoy it.
