Zion National Park Accommodations, Hotels, Vacation Rentals & Lodging
The Narrows is the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. This gorge, with walls a thousand feet tall and the river sometimes just twenty to thirty feet wide, is one of the most popular areas in Zion National Park located in Utah.
A hike through The Narrows requires hiking in the Virgin River. You must get your feet wet since there is no trail. Most people choose to start their hike from the Temple of Sinawava via the Riverside Walk and then walk upstream before turning around and hiking back down to the Temple of Sinawava, which is what we did.
Our goal was to hike a couple miles up the river, then come back down. We were so captivated by the scenery and spectacular views that we lost track of time and distance. We ended up hiking a little over 9 miles round-trip, almost making it to Big Springs.
After the hike, we were beat. This was due to our decision to wear old hiking shoes instead of more appropriate footwear for walking on water. Our shoes did not allow water to flow through, making our feet heavy with each step and causing severe ankle and knee pain due to the weight and lack of ankle support. I recommend renting a pair of 5.10 Canyoneers, Neoprene Socks, and Hiking Pole at the Zion Outfitters before this hike.
